I received an unexpected late-night call from my daughter, Lily, sobbing. She explained that her landlord had raised the rent after learning about her raise, and when she didn’t react, he planted hazardous chemicals in her backyard and falsely accused her of storing them there. He then gave her two days to move out.
I was furious, especially knowing how much effort Lily had put into turning her backyard into a beautiful garden. I promised to help her, and the next night, I gathered some friends to remove everything from her garden, teaching the landlord a lesson. We also made the house look worse inside by exposing its faults.
The next day, when the landlord, Jack, arrived, he was furious to see the yard stripped. Lily calmly denied knowing what happened, while I pointed out the home’s many issues. Jack tried to accuse us of sabotage, but I proved that the house was already in disrepair when Lily moved in. The potential tenants quickly left, and Jack’s plan backfired.
Months later, Lily found a new place with a landlord who appreciated her gardening. As she settled into her new home, she thanked me for standing by her. I was proud of her strength and resilience.
