Back in September 2019, Loren Schauers was involved in a horrific event while working as a labourer, and has since documented his recovery and life with a growing base of followers.
Just 18 years old at the time, the lad was driving a forklift across a bridge in the US when it veered off-course, sending him plummeting 50 feet to the ground.
He suffered life-changing injuries after the vehicle pinned him to the ground. Schauers ended up having hemicorporectomy surgery – everything below his waist amputated – to save his life after his pelvis was completely crushed.
And in an update to his followers, he shared his hopes for this Christmas.
Writing with his wife Sabia, he posted on Facebook yesterday (17 November): “Just a little shout out to all of you for supporting and following us, 10K by Christmas would be super cool.
“We appreciate each and every one of you for helping us create this community!!”
They shared a screenshot of the ‘Page Overview’ for their joint account, showing they are currently sitting at 8,904 followers.
With several years having passed since the man’s freak accident, he still lives with pain and difficulties.
A recent update on the page on 15 November explained: “Loren is still not able to really go anywhere between the pain and not being able to use his bucket going to Mom and Dad’s was not a good plan.
“Luckily mom and dad came out and cooked at our house. Dad especially liked it when he realised he could just leave without cleaning up or doing dishes wishing everybody a peaceful week and see you next Sunday, love you all!”
The couple shares updates on various social platforms. (facebook/Sabia & Loren Real Account)
In a previous Youtube video, Schauers reflected on it being five years since the accident and explained the pain was becoming more manageable.
He explained the rehab techniques he’d been taught by doctors had helped ‘erase the phantom pain’ over the years.
He said: “Five years later, pain’s under control, life is finally managed in a way that we can control it now.
“I don’t know how to explain it, it’s not as epic, things aren’t like bombs dropping on us any more. We kind of know what to expect with certain things, and can kind of tell what’s gonna happen.
“Me and Sabia are doing great. We don’t get out much. We went to Lollapalooza in Chicago and had a great time obviously.”

A man who was cut in half by a forklift has given us an update, alongside his wife, five years after the horrific accident.
Loren Schauers was just 18-years-old when he suffered an almost fatal injury that turned his entire life upside down.
While working as a labourer in Montana, US, on 27 September, 2019, the forklift he was operating veered off a bridge, falling 50ft into the ground.
He has previously shared how his life has changed following the accident, which saw him be caught beneath the forklift. Loren made the painful decision to give authorities permission to cut and amputate everything below his waist, as it was that or death for the then teenager.

Even more painfully so, Loren was conscious following the accident – where his right arm and pelvis were crushed – and he felt the full extent of the pain during a 10/15 minute wait for his co-workers to help him up. As a result, three of his limbs were amputated, and his life was changed forever as he found that many of his friends weren’t loyal enough to stick around. He also realised that it would be difficult to make any new friends in the years following. But along with his wife, he runs a YouTube channel called Sabia and Loren, as he gives their 642,000 subscribers an insight into his life and what he does on a day to day basis. During one of their latest videos, he provided an update on his and Sabia’s lives exactly five years from the incident, revealing that his pain is now more manageable, praising rehab techniques he’d learnt from doctors.
Revealing that they ‘know what to expect’ with things nowadays, he also said that him and Sabia were ‘doing great’, though the couple ‘don’t do much’, as they read books and watch TV most of the time.
Sabia, who has been in a relationship with Loren since before his accident, was then asked: “Is your situation now anything like you expected after the accident?”
She answered: “Yes and no, I saw us still being together and settled down but I don’t think I necessarily I guess had a vision for the future.
Sabia admitted that she takes it ‘a day at a time’ (Youtube/Sabia and Loren)
“It’s just always kind of been in the now since the accident happened so like when it happened I knew I wasn’t going anywhere and then we went through the processes of the hospital and rehab.”
“I don’t know I guess since the accident happened I haven’t really really thought farther ahead than a day at a time so I hoped we’d still be together but I didn’t really have any visions for the future,” Sabia admitted.
Loren then followed up by agreeing with his wife completely, saying that that’s ‘exactly how it’s been’ over the past few years.

Working as a labourer in Montana, US, at the time, Loren was driving a forklift when it veered off a bridge on 27 September, 2019.
Along with the forklift, he fell 50ft to the ground and was pinned underneath the vehicle.
Everything below his hips was completely smashed to pieces, and Loren lost half of his right arm.
The only options he had was to have everything below the waist amputated, or to die.

Following a successful amputation, his wife Sabia Reiche spoke on his behalf when answering fan questions on their YouTube channel in 2021.
“How long will Loren live? What’s his life expectancy?” she began.
“That one is so touch and go, there’s no, you know, for sure.
“In the recorded cases, I believe the average was about 11 years and the record holder was at about 24 years.
“But none of them were in the same situation as Loren.
“The closest one to Loren’s situation, age, health, all of that was the one who lived about 24 years.
“So, if we go off of that, you know, we are hoping Loren has, you know, 40-plus years left with us.

“So, that one is really hard to answer because his case is so rare.
“Because his case is so rare, it’s hard to pinpoint.”
Opening up about what he gets up to on a daily basis, Loren said: “I stream on Twitch as much as possible, whenever I can get up.
“But other than that, pretty much just lay in bed.
“But I try and stream on Twitch as much as possible whenever I’m sitting up.
“And then whenever we’re sitting up, whenever I’m sitting up, we’re either doing YouTube videos or I’m streaming on Twitch.”
“A lot of times we go out to my parents’ place,” his wife added, “Get in his track chair, do some stuff out there.
In the comments section, viewers were stunned by Loren’s positive outlook on life.
“He is physically half the man I am but I am emotionally and mentally half the man he is. I wish I had his motivation and outlook on life. You rock my dude!” one person wrote.
Another added: “I am a 73-year-old man and I must say that I am full of admiration and respect for these two young people.
“It’s a great lesson in life and love that they give us: a huge thank you to them, God bless them.”

The Montana, US native’s injuries were catastrophic and Loren underwent a hemicorporectomy – the amputation of everything below the waist – to save his life.
He also lost half of his right arm in the horrific accident.
But, most horrifying of all, Loren revealed he had been ‘conscious’ throughout the whole thing, including the moment the forklift fell on him.

Now, Loren documents his life with his wife Sabia Reiche on social media, sharing details of everything from how he showers to how he goes to the bathroom with no lower half of the body.
Earlier this year, he shared a heartbreaking admission about his life since the devastating accident on Facebook.
In a post, he wrote: “Am I the only one who finds it difficult to make friends? I’m never really busy doing anything, just don’t know who to hit up and let into my life.
“Also, been betrayed by so many ‘friends’ in so many ways that I might have trust issues letting people into my life, not stealing from me, taking advantage of whatever they can, stuff like that.
“I know it’s dumb to make it out into a Facebook post but hey! If anyone is looking for a friend! I’m always free and need to make some friends.
“Haven’t hung out with anyone that isn’t family in over a year it feels like lol. HMU!”
He admits making friends has been hard since his accident (SWNS)
Loren has previously opened up about being ‘disappointed’ with some of his friends in a YouTube Live, saying they’d ‘totally reverted and have been reclusive’ since his accident.
His wife Sabia also said she was ‘surprised’ by their behaviour.
“But it’s whatever to me, you know,” Loren said. “I got Sabia that’s all I need.
“Going through this together has definitely strengthened a lot of the aspects of our relationship.”
And Sabia explained: “It has made us a lot more appreciative of the little things that we used to take for granted as a couple before.”
On a more positive note, however, he did say ‘a couple of friends came out of the woodwork and have been really supportive.’
And, in his search for new friends, the internet has done something good, with a plethora of people getting in touch to say they’d like to be friends with Loren.

Previously revealing he was conscious for the entirety of the scary ordeal, Schauers made the brave decision undergo hemicorporectomy surgery – where everything below his waist was amputated – to save his life after his pelvis was completely crushed.
Years on from the accident, the man has continued to open up about his life since, as well as sharing photos of the moment that nearly killed him.
Images show a forklift on its side off the side of a steep hill, with Schauers not visible under it.
On Instagram, he said: “If you look closely in the second photo, you can see me still pinned under the forklift. Last photo is exactly what type it was I’m sure of.”

At the time, his girlfriend-now-wife Sabia Reiche, was told by doctors Schauers would not survive and said goodbye to him a staggering six times.
Miraculously, he pulled through, but it’s been a bumpy road to recovery.
Speaking about the accident, he previously said: “I was conscious throughout everything, so I actually watched as the forklift fell on top of me and crushed my body.
“Every medical professional I come across is pretty amazed by everything, especially with the story that comes along with my injuries.
“It wasn’t a hard choice to have half of my body amputated – it was basically a choice of living or dying. With Sabia assuring to stay by my side no matter what and all my immediate family being around me, it really wasn’t a hard choice for me!”

The lad documents his life with vlogs on a YouTube channel he shares with his wife. In a Q&A the pair were once asked how they have sex, to which Reiche replied saying it was ‘disrespectful’ to ask such a thing.
She said: “A question we get repeatedly is how do we have sex and how do we become intimate.
“That is a very personal question that we are never going to answer or allude to as it’s very disrespectful.
“You wouldn’t ask a random couple on the street how they have sex and just because our life circumstances are different, it doesn’t give people the right to ask.”
