The British royal family seems to be plagued by misfortune. Almost every week, troubling news about the life of King Charles III and his loved ones appears in the media. Just recently, his wife, Camilla, had been recovering after an illness. At the beginning of November, she fell seriously ill and missed several official events, including the Remembrance Day parade, which even Princess of Wales, who had just completed a course of chemotherapy, attended. It was soon after that news broke about Kate’s own battle with cancer, shortly after the palace announced King Charles’ illness in January.
Today, Camilla shared another sad update: her beloved Jack Russell terrier, Beth, had passed away. The Queen posted a tribute, saying she had said her final goodbye to her pet. The palace shared a few personal photos of Beth, writing: “A sad farewell to Beth, the Queen’s beloved companion from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, who brought so much joy—whether on walks, assisting with official duties, or curling up by the fire.”
The staff at the shelter also expressed their condolences. As reported, Camilla adopted Beth in 2011. Recently, the dog had been diagnosed with an inoperable tumor, and over the weekend, the decision was made to put her down.
In addition, the King and Queen care for another rescue dog, Bluebell. Camilla has previously spoken in interviews about how she always regarded her pets as part of the family. “The best thing about life with a dog is that you can sit with them, have a long and pleasant conversation, you can be angry, you can be sad, and they’ll just sit there, look at you, and wag their tail,” she once shared.
