The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have volunteered to help victims of the devastating fires raging in California. Prince Harry, 40, and Meghan Markle, 43, arrived in Pasadena as volunteers.
According to People, the couple distributed food and essential items to victims together with the non-profit organization World Central Kitchen, talked to victims and their families, and expressed gratitude to firefighters and rescuers for their work. A video of Harry and Meghan was broadcast on Fox.
The efforts of the Dukes of Sussex were highly praised by Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo. He said that their participation encouraged rescuers and victims. At the same time, he emphasized that Harry and Meghan tried not to attract unnecessary attention to themselves and distributed food in masks, focusing on helping people.
Despite this, they were still accused of hyping up the tragedy. Under the video on Fox’s YouTube channel and elsewhere, many write that Markle and her husband simply could not pass up another opportunity for PR. Here are just some of the comments: “The drama queen has arrived,” “She has a show coming out on Netflix and is trying to boost the ratings,” “Hey, peasants, here’s a hug,” “Meanwhile, American princess Taylor Swift has donated $10 million.”
However, some fans of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stood up for them. They noted that it is not known how much they donated. In addition, Meghan and Harry are already providing assistance as much as they can: for example, they opened their home in Montecito for evacuees.
