Elizabeth Montgomery’s eldest son is already 61. Who is he and what does he do?

Posted on December 14, 2025 by admin

Elizabeth Montgomery remains an enduring figure in television history, best known for her role as Samantha Stephens on Bewitched. With her effortless charm, comedic timing, and iconic nose twitch, she became one of the most recognizable stars of the 1960s. While audiences remember her for her on-screen magic, her life away from the spotlight was defined by something far more personal: her role as a mother.

Montgomery’s eldest son, Bill Asher Jr., was born in 1964 during the height of her success. He was the child of two prominent figures in television—Elizabeth Montgomery and director-producer William Asher. At the time, Asher was directing some of the most influential sitcoms in American television, including Bewitched and I Love Lucy. Growing up, Bill was immersed in a household where creativity, production schedules, and storytelling were everyday realities.

Despite being surrounded by acting and directing, Bill did not follow his parents into the entertainment industry. Instead, he developed an early interest in music and craftsmanship. Rather than scripts and sound stages, he gravitated toward instruments and design. This creative independence marked a defining turn in his life and career.

As an adult, Bill became a highly regarded luthier, eventually founding Asher Guitars & Lap Steels. His work focuses on building custom, hand-crafted guitars that are prized for their vintage sound, visual detail, and precision. His instruments are used by accomplished musicians and collectors who value both performance and artistry. Through this work, Bill carved out a reputation built entirely on his own skill and vision.

Elizabeth Montgomery supported her children’s individual paths, even when they led away from Hollywood. Though her career placed her in the public eye, she was known for working to keep her family grounded and protected from the pressures of fame. For her, motherhood was not secondary to her success—it was central to her identity.

Behind the scenes of a celebrated television career was a woman balancing professional demands with family life, a balance that became even more complex as her personal relationships evolved in the years ahead.
