The 7-Year-Old Who Kept Digging in My Yard—Until His Mother Took Me to Court
My neighbor’s seven-year-old kept digging up my flowers and damaging my yard. When I asked his mother, Kendra, to keep him on their property, she laughed it off. Then he broke a garden light, and I installed motion-activated spotlights. Days later, I found another light damaged—and a note on my car warning me to “stop watching” her son.
I began documenting the damage. My security camera eventually caught the boy throwing rocks at my porch light while Kendra stood nearby. I filed a complaint with the HOA, but Kendra responded by taking me to small claims court, accusing me of spying on her child. I brought my photos, receipts, and video to the hearing. The judge dismissed her claim and issued an order to protect my property.
I thought that was the end of our neighbor dispute. Then Kendra’s mother came to apologize. She began watching her grandson after school, and slowly the damage stopped. One day, he brought me a drawing that said “SORRY.” That fall, we planted a cherry blossom tree together at the edge of my yard.
