The Call That Came Before I Made It..

Late one quiet night, I heard a faint rustling sound outside my window.

The neighborhood was completely silent, which somehow made the noise feel even more unsettling. Unable to shake the feeling that something wasn’t right, I picked up my phone and called the police.

What happened next sent a chill down my spine.

The dispatcher listened for a moment and then calmly said, “You already called.”

Confused, I told him this was my first call of the night.

After a brief pause, he explained that just minutes earlier, someone using my phone number had reported the exact same thing—a strange noise outside the window and a request for help.

My heart started racing.

I looked around the dark house, suddenly feeling less alone than I wanted to be.

The dispatcher assured me that officers were already on their way, but his explanation did little to calm my nerves. How could someone have called from my number before I had even picked up the phone?

The rest of the night passed without incident. By morning, everything looked normal. No signs of anyone outside. No evidence of what had caused the noise.

Yet the experience stayed with me.

Maybe there was a logical explanation. Maybe it was a strange technical glitch.

Or maybe some moments aren’t meant to be fully understood.

Sometimes life sends a warning before we realize we need one. And sometimes it feels as if the universe whispers twice—just to make sure we’re listening.
