WORCESTER — In a move that will impact local shoppers, Price Chopper has announced it will close its store at 50 Cambridge St. in Worcester by January 31. This follows the closure of a Stop & Shop in another part of the city earlier this year, marking a notable shift in the local grocery landscape.
The decision was made after a “thorough and thoughtful review,” according to a press release from Market32/Price Chopper. Blaine Bringhurst, President of Market32/Price Chopper, explained that the closure was necessary to better align the company’s resources with market demands. “We are deeply grateful to our customers and teammates for their loyalty and dedication and are committed to supporting our teammates during this transition,” Bringhurst said.
The store’s 76 employees have been offered comparable positions at other Price Chopper locations in Worcester and Shrewsbury, with five stores in Worcester alone. Despite the closure, the company is emphasizing its ongoing commitment to serving the community and retaining local staff.
The closing of the Cambridge St. store adds to the growing trend of grocery store closures across the region, leaving some residents concerned about the availability of convenient shopping options in the area.
